I can’t open it on mine because it wont recognise the .rar file. How can I get this to work on my phone. And a simple explanation would be much appreciated

Guys why bother to download, just do image search on google save picture, transfer via active sync and just set as today wallpaper or even S2U2 wallpaper

If you want your backgrounds to work in both portrait and landscape, they have to be .bmp files at 400×374 resolution.
