January 20th, 2009 at 1:52 am
Will it work in the UK? With an Omnia i900?
January 27th, 2009 at 8:56 am
just trying it on the omnia now… i will post again when iv tested it. but everyone trying to install don’t unzip the folder you download! Its in cab format so your omnia or pda should happily just install it, just put it straight on your phone
hope that helps

I tried it out and to be honest i wasn’t impressed, for the maps it requires data roaming so unless you have it on your contract plan your better off not bothering with this. And as for working on the omnia, it would load up, find my position, let me search the globe while i had data roaming active (which cost me a fortune!). The view is exactly the same as as google maps as suspected and the nearby search is brilliant, esp if you want a pizza to be delivered to you, it has all the details for the companys aswel. However when it comes to the all important bit of being a sat nav, it fails on the omnia and wouldnt let me create a route, kept encountering errors and shutting itself down. Im gonna try the Nav and go igo 8 as its size seems to indicate that it has the maps built in which is a must for all those who don’t use data roaming!!

Hey there,
There a new software going around that allow you to download Google map so you can used offline but it for the Iphone : (
Any thing for the omnia??? would be handy since I’m heading overseas soon.
Cheers.

Guys,
For an offline map, you can visit this…forgotten where I got it from….
visit this website:
http://terracrosser.com/
I’ve installed on my OMNIA.
April 2nd, 2009 at 7:49 pm
I installed Google Navigator. It starts up OK, but when I “start GPS” it doesn’t recognize any sattelites (”0 Sat”). The Omnia has 19 “GPS Program Ports”. It says that any program using GPS needs to get its’ sat. data through the selected port. I’ve tried all 19 of ‘em (whew) and still “0 Sat”. Which port should I use? What else could I be doing wrong? Also, I couldn’t find any “readme” file either.

OK. Here’s the answer to my own question…. It says “0 Sat” because the bums at
Verizon Wireless locked the GPS data to any third party software. They say that they are going to unlock it soon but no action yet. Too bad, because the Google Navigator is a nice program…. Great maps, and good, easy to use features. Rick (above) didn’t like it much, but I think that was because he didn’t have an unlimited data plan like Verizon sells. Anyway, once it loads its’ maps up, the data usage should go way down as they remain on the phone ’till you delete them.

they now have a cooked rom for the verizon i910 omnia that unlocks the GPS on it.. http://www.theidoctor.com — i think it maybe .org.. just google it, you will find it.. be warned though it can brick your phone..
May 9th, 2009 at 4:52 am
orrr….just wait till the 11th (rumor) verizon will be releasing the official rom update to unlock GPS. It’s basicly the leaked ROM but streamlined install. Also if this one bricks your phone it will still be under warranty unlike using theidoctors.
May 15th, 2009 at 7:49 am
AzinTegra ain’t giving up the ROM.. Forget about that for a while. It’ll be released, but probably not anytime soon.. Back to the product at hand, I’ve looked into this here “Google Navigator”. Thought it was cool of Google to create this, but come to find out that this is in no way affiliated with Google.
I have not used it, but I’m just warning to not get any hopes up about this here product.

where can i get the street view map?? does anyone have philippines??G
June 7th, 2009 at 7:09 am
The i910 rom can be flashed to you’re phone and it unlocks you’re gps. FOR VERIZON USERS ONLY. Works great been using it for over a moth. Easy to do just go to samsung-omnia.org they have step by step instructions.
Google navigator is great. Not as good as garmin but you don’t have all of that downloading of software.

@Matt
Have you gone to Settings>Personal>Phone>Middle tab>GPS>On yet?
August 7th, 2009 at 2:42 am
Nope. Thanks level. I knew it had to be some setting that was not right. Appreciate the fast response.
August 7th, 2009 at 2:45 am
Yup. I’ve been camping around responding to people =P I’m so bored right now.
August 7th, 2009 at 2:48 am
Still saying 0 sat. Do I need to change my gps settings? I currently have the gps program port at 8, gps hardware port set at none and baud rate at 4800.
August 7th, 2009 at 2:51 am
Set it managed by windows(Or is that only google maps?). Make sure you are outside with full view of the sky. It takes a while for initial fix. ~5 mins…
August 7th, 2009 at 2:55 am
Not sure what you mean by set it managed by windows.
August 7th, 2009 at 2:57 am
I thinks that’s only a google maps thing. I think 8 baud 4800 is correct though. Have you let it sit outside for a while to find a fix?
August 7th, 2009 at 3:04 am
Figured it out. I went outside and it worked.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:05 am
Thanks a lot for the help.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:08 am

This app does not appear to work with the Verizon Omnia as it seems that Verizon has locked out any other GPS program from working except their own VZW Navigator which you have to pay $10 a month for. Amazing.
October 9th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Rafel you need to go get the update from samsung for the VZW omnia it will unlock the GPS. I have a verizon omnia so I am speaking from personal experience.
Though for some reason navigator wont ever download any maps on mine. not sure what isn’t configured right

Anyone having Google Navigator 5.3 or 5.4 with Keygen?
October 19th, 2009 at 2:46 am
Okay the GPS and Google Navigator are working fine. I can not get the maps to show up. Please advise where to get maps for Google Navigator. Thanks for your support.
October 20th, 2009 at 3:12 am
go to this: http://www.google.com/mobile/products/maps.html#p=winmo
it’s a BETTER version of the same program, open, active, useable, and FREE!!!
the only thing you need is a Gmail account, also FREE…
the agps tracer isn’t perfect, but it makes really good use of googlemaps to locate your position. and it WILL know where you want to go when you give it that imput.

Why would anybody bother with Google Navigator and having to download maps via a mobile Internet connection, when they can have a fully standalone GPS navigation program that, once installed, operates all the time with no Internet connection or cost?
I have been using TomTom Navigator 6 and 7 for years on my HTC Windows Mobile devices and it is as good as the best and most expensive TomTom standalone GPS receivers. It’s always there to be used anywhere I go and I don’t need to be connected to anything.
For those people who are thinking of using Google Navigator, think about this. How will you use the program when you are in a spot where you can’t get a phone signal to download the maps of the area you are in? Guess what? In that situation, you’d better have a paper map handy.
I live in Australia and in that situation, I’ve got the entire Australia map loaded on my memory card and it has every street and every city in the nation on board my smartphone. I don’t need Internet connections at all - TomTom Navigator is always there and and available. And if I travel to another nation, I can merely download the map of that entire nation onto my memory card and do the same overseas.
Until Google provides downloadable maps that can be stored on memory cards, obviating the need to connect to the Internet, then I will stick to TomTom Navigator - it does everything, has a zillion POI, tells me when I’m approaching speed cameras and much more.
Google, you need to get your act together before taking on any standalone GPS software such as TomTom Navigator.
