QuickGPS for Omnia
Categories: Internet & Network, Navigator
This app was brought & share by wushdishmeen. Please give him thanks!
QuickGPS can speed up the time for determining your GPS position by downloading the latest satellite data via an Internet connection. Originally created by HTC, this program has been patched to work with the Omnia so it doesn’t require any HTC .dll files. Set up an automated download schedule so your satellite information is always up to date as it expires every six days.
This is the closest thing to A-GPS that us VZW Omnia owners may see until an official update for standalone GPS is released. There is a substantial increase in cold lock times in third party programs such as Google Maps, Microsoft Bing, iGo8, Garmin XT, and TomTom applications.

Recommended:
It is highly suggested that you have an unlimited data plan when using this program. If you are not connected via WiFi and the program attempts to update it will dial #777 and connect to the Mobile Broadband network to do so. Although the data is very small it will add up over time for those who have a limit on their bandwidth usage.

I think it is just the same as Enhanced GPS settings.
July 17th, 2009 at 6:37 am
maybe maybe not, it does the same function but perhaps it’s more effective than the one already on the omnia. Has anyone tried this already?
July 17th, 2009 at 8:52 am
ok just tell me if there is difference about them. i already uninstalled it.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Hey I have searched everywhere on my phone I can’t seem to find Enhanced GPS setting. I only see External GPS. I got omnia i910 with wm6.5 and adrynalynes cooked rom build 4.2 where is the setting I looked in system nothing there.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Well I certainly dont have enhanced gps setting so I am going to test this out tomorrow when I go get a haircut lol.
July 17th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
dont work..”failed to open map” ??? help!?
July 17th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
I hope everyone knows about the new i910 firmware that was just released which gives you open agps and gps google it and flash away. Works like a champ
July 17th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
where can I find i910 firmware update?
July 17th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
theres a thread about it over on modaco
July 17th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
The new ROM version should show S:i910.10 V.CF03.20961

It is NOT enhanced gps settings. This helps alot because it loads a file onto your phone with some info on satellites that helps it get a quicker fix. Keep in mind you have to have the new software ROM that Verizon released today, in order to have unlocked GPS to begin with. If you are still on the stock rom, this wont do anything for you
July 18th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
We tried this on the i910, and it was just a placebo. Fortunately the CF03 ROM includes aGPS, so problem solved!
July 18th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
this is already bulit in to the latest official OMNIA i900 rom DXIA5…
this will benefit those with the other or earlier version…
July 18th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
this is just the same as enhanced GPS… say it… GPS is the worst thing in omnia
July 18th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
It’s not aGPS.. It’s just cellphone triangulation from cell towers.. The i900 has had many updates, but this is our first so no need to brag to us here.. This doesn’t work with Google Maps as it’s unable to open the downlaoded packets, which renders this app useless.. Upgrade to the official Rom and flash to any of Adryn’s Roms.. It’ll be the best thing you ever did with your phone.. PPCGeeks..
July 18th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
Not Needed once you update to the new rom from verizon/samsung
July 19th, 2009 at 3:25 am
I downloaded and installed it on omnia but when open it and click download, a progress bar comes up and it just says “Connecting….” above it then disappears without making any progress. I tried connecting to WiFi/Data beforehand but that didn’t work either.
?
July 19th, 2009 at 4:56 am
Necosino, this is not the one that was a placebo. After that one Adrynalyne found this one that did work for many people.
And no, it’s not agps, but it helped before we had agps, so I am going to continue to use it so it can help even more
July 19th, 2009 at 5:58 am
I don’t know if it works or not but to get it to work I believe you have to start this first then start google maps or other gps then go task bar and open quick gps without closing the maps and click download then it should download, when finished run task manager again and maximize the maps for gps.
July 19th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
is there any version of “pocket hack master” that works on the omnia
if yes submit link please.
July 20th, 2009 at 2:39 am
Guys this program DOES HELP. It helped me tremendously.
But like others said the official Verizon update was released so you can get real A-GPS by updating to that.
However, some people are like me and don’t want to lose their custom 6.5 ROM or M2D interface by updating.
The QuickGPS app works best with Adrynalyne’s 6.5 ROM. It’s the SECOND fastest way for the GPS to work. I’ve gotten cold locks in under 5 seconds WITHOUT the official verizon update.
SO…if your like me and dont want to update to the CF03 ROM until better custom ROMs for it come out then I would stick with ur current custom CC20 ROM and use QuickGPS.
Those saying it does nothing and it’s the same as “Enhanced GPS” are mistaken. The Omnia i910 does NOT have an Enhanced GPS setting because there is no standalone GPS nor A-GPS unless you pay for VZNAVIGATOR.
July 20th, 2009 at 2:46 am
Oh and i have no clue about you people saying it doesn’t work. FIRST OF ALL…i hope your trying to make it work on an omnia and not using some other phone. cuz i know some people still come here and download shit even tho they dont have an omnia and then complain that it doesnt work like idiots.
I literally installed the CAB and ran the program and it worked. Clicked download and it downloaded the file in 5 seconds. After I did that I got MUCH faster locks in Google Maps, Bing, and iGO8. IT WAS NOT A PLACEBO….i actually TIMED my cold locks BEFORE and AFTER using this and it was a significant change in speed.
Those saying it’s useless have no clue what they’re talking about.
THEY ARE THINKING OF THE QUICK POSITION APPLICATION. THIS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!
Also those saying to get adrynalynes ROM should realize that ADRYNALYNE WAS THE ONE WHO PATCHED THIS PROGRAM TO WORK WITH THE OMNIA AND IT COMES WITH HIS 6.5 ROMS.
HE USED TO USE QUICKPOSITION BUT IT DIDNT WORK WELL SO HE SWAPPED IT FOR THIS AND IT WORKS GREAT. SO YOU GUYS ARE MISTAKING IT FOR THE QUICKPOSITION APP.
AT THIS POINT THE ONLY REASON TO USE THIS IS IF YOU DONT WANT TO FLASH TO THE CF03 UPDATE UNTIL BETTER CUSTOM 6.5 ROMS ARE MADE FOR IT.
I HONESTLY DIDNT FIND THE CF03 GPS TO BE MUCH FASTER THEN THE CC20 ROM W/QUICKGPS APPLICATION. THATS THE SAD TRUTH.
THE OFFICIAL VERIZON UPDATE ISNT EVEN THAT GOOD. CC20 ROM WAS MUCH BETTER WITH WAY MORE BUG FIXES AND A SHIT LOAD BETTER FEATURES.
July 20th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
And I stand corrected… Mostly..
Got the aGPS part correct, but you guys are right, this wasn’t the placebo.. Still, an upgrade to the CF03 is your best option, it’ll use the tower triangulation until it locks onto a sat.. Bugs may be present again, but with Adryn, BW, and Bgill, it won’t take long until the bugs are gone once again. It won’t be completely accurate, but accurate enough for the time being before it locks. I would use this, triangulate for however long necessary, then you’re good to go.
Footnote: He actual used this first, then found the QuickPosition app and that how it was placeboed.

Also, your caps lock key must have been stuck a few times. Either that or you’re just another as* who uses the caps to feel as though their getting their point across. We read all other posts just fine.
July 20th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Thank you for the software. I have a CC20 ROM and installed this program to increase the locking speed. Haven’t test it yet, but I have a quick question for you guys. It seems like my phone (ROM) has some problems with GPS. First, it takes some time to ‘initialize’ and then it takes longer to lock the satellites. For me, the locking time is getting longer and longer as I use the phone. Do you guys have any problem with your ROM? Sometimes when I soft-reset my phone, it gives me an error message (some sort of file error) too. I hope this software improves the time dramatically.. But please let me know if you guys have any advice for me. Thanks!
July 21st, 2009 at 5:56 am
Some people got to set the com and baud, but I just let windows manage it and it works just fine. The QGPS will help thoroughly with your problems with GPS, as it will attempt to find the sats where the downloaded packets say they are. It should help you dramatically, especially if outdoors when you try to get your first lock. Although, I don’t know where the error message is from or what it says for that matter.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Wush, there are about 5 custom 6.5 ROMs available now on Modaco and PPCGeeks

For PPL with I900 (not i910). There’s a few things you can do to improve “Enhanced GPS”. First disable the GPS-logfiles.
With your registry-editor of choice go to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver]
and change both: “OldLogFile” and “CurrentLogFile” to “\”
Then reset your PDA and delete the gpslog-files with file explorer.
Secondly direct the aGPS from test.agps.com:7275 (dogslow) to xtra1.gpsonextra.net:80 (snappy) at
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Samsung\RIL\GPS]
“ServerAddress”=
This will make Enhanced GPS retrieve the data file much quicker then before.
Cheers

GOVERNMENT REFORM OF TELECOMMUNICATION COMPANIES
AT&T, VERIZON, T-MOBILE, SPRINT, ETC
We are tired of corporate America asking us to make a commitment to their company when they have no loyalty to, us, their customers. As American consumers we go to cell phone companies for service, not for equipment. Branding another manufacturer’s equipment is just another way for them to bind us into contractual agreements and, to charge us additional monies to use the full features of the equipment, as designed by the original cell phone manufacturer, in an “a la carte” manner.
We need better consumer protection against leveraging our credit rating and worthiness, if, we should become un-employed during the duration of such a commitment.
Therefore, we are asking for legislation that allows us to:
• Purchase our own equipment directly from cell phone manufacturers or without making two year commitments or any.
• Allow us to switch telecommunication service providers without penalty or credit sacrifice.
• Make it easy for us to move our existing telephone numbers to whichever company we choose.
• Advertise which telecommunication companies provide the best coverage in our area, on a specified website.
• Prevent cell phone companies from “piece mealing” services by features that were part of the original cell phone design by the manufacturer.
• Stop cell phone providers from adding additional charges to our bills utilizing abstract names and means.
• Giving us a clear cut way to report cell phone providers who fleece their customers, for immediate remedy, and, for better consumer credit protection.
• Prevent telecommunication companies from designing specialized plans, specific, to certain cell phone manufacturers to abstract more monthly service fees.
Contact your congress member with a version of this letter. We want the option of buying the cellphone of our choice, unlocked, to be utilized on any network. Keep this circulating.

The org. HTC’s Quick GPS downloads a file called “Packempheris.ece” which is only used by SIRF based GPS chipset. Since the Omnia doesn’t use a SIRF like chipset it needs “xtra.bin” which is downloaded by this version. So it does works for our Omnia and via wifi.
btw.when you get the error “can’t create empty document” you have to rename the file with the “409″in it to your own countrycode, in my case “0413″ (dutch)
This file is in \windows\

http://www.modaco.com/content/i9×0-omnia-http-omnia-modaco-com/274303/quick-gps-fix-without-xtra-enabled/
If you turn off XTRA, you’ll notice that it may require even more than 15-30 minutes to get a fix. Turning on XTRA will shorten this to almost instant fixes…
Many people prefer to disable Enhanced GPS Settings, XTRA data download. This is because 3G/GPRS data connections can cost a lot, especially if you are abroad and roaming.
It seems like Samsung has left some settings turned on in the registy, for debugging purposes, and this makes really slow to get a fix without XTRA data. According to Microsoft’s documentation (see GPS Intermediate Driver General Registry Settings) some features like logging can be enabled for debugging, in GPS Intermediate Driver’s registry settings, which stays between the hardware and your navigation software.
My experience shows that the following steps seem to improve the time to get a GPS fix, without need to download XTRA data:
1. Go to Settings > System > Enhanced GPS and set both settings to “Disable”
2. Go to your device’s registry, and see the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver
3. Change the following string values to nothing (don’t delete them, just edit them and clear the value):
CurrentLogFile (originally \GPSID_log.txt)
OldLogFile (originally \GPSID_log.bak)
4. Soft-reset your device
5. With File Explorer, go to My Device, and delete the two GPSID_log files you see, and the file named xtra. If you don’t soft-reset, you will not be able to delete some of them.
6. Check again the registry setting. Sometimes in rare cases it may revert the settings back - but that’s a general WM problem.
After this, if you start your navigation software under clear sky, you can get a fix in a coulpe of minutes, without the use of XTRA, or any other data source, than pure native GPS satellites.
To digg in the registry there are many free and shareware tools available, I can recommend Total Commander CE, which has a registry plugin.
Also noticed (but this may be really subjective) that flipping the device with the back upwards, while waiting for GPS fix, improves reception a bit - it seems like the internal receiver antenna is oriented to the back of the device… but if anyohe has dissassembled the Omnia can confirm or infirm this.

this doesn’t do anything for google maps. is this just an aid when you already have GPS set up on your phone and this just makes it quicker? … i DON’T want to buy ZVnavagator

This app is a waste of a download, does nothing for my phone, i have a telus Omnia i910 and this app is useless, do not even bother with the download as this is nothing you will ever use. Just download any GPS program or Navigation system.
What a Waste!
