TorchButton for Omnia
Categories: Personal Assistance, Utility Applications
This app was brought by wushdishmeen, with all credits go to its developer, NetRipper. Plz give them thanks!
TorchButton is a similar app with the same name made by HTC. Someone remade it to work with the Omnia. This CAB installs a program in your programs folder which when pressed will turn on the flashlight. Pressing again will turn it off and it has a timeout on it. Works good for people using themes other then the Today Theme since mapping the flashlight to the volume down key only works when your on the today screen. You can make a shortcut to this app anywhere you want.

Supported modes:
TorchButton has 5 modes so far. Each one explained in short:
Normal
Simply enable the flashlight until the application is started again or the configurable timeout occurs (60 seconds by default). This mode can be used for a prolonged period. I have only tested it up to 5 minutes though.
Bright
The Bright mode is exactly the same as the Normal mode, with the only difference being that the LED is more bright. This mode is equal to the short moment when you make a photo with flashlight on. Note that this mode does stress the LED and should not be used for prolonged periods. I have used this up to a minute without problems.
Blink
The Blink mode turns the LED on and off in specific intervals that you can configure in the registry. An example of usage is the bike light.
SOS
This is extensive mode that supports sending custom morse code. The text to be sent via morse code signals can be configured in the registry. This defaults to “sos “, thus the SOS name for this mode. NOTE that the flashlight timeout does NOT interrupt a text. It checks if the timeout occurred when it starts over again and quits when it reached the timeout.
PTT
The Push-To-Torch mode. When your device has a key you can map to ‘hold’, you can use this feature to keep the light on as long as the key is pressed. The AT&T Fuze is one of those devices with a PTT button.

Cool app but totally useless, the Buttons option in the settings menu of our omnias allows the bottom volume button to be held for the same thing. Not worth it for Omnia owners….unless you want to do morse code I guess.

Actually I do find this very useful. Although we can map the volume button to turn on the flashlight, it will only work from the Today Screen. Which means you have to close Mobile Shell (or any other shell you might be using). This program (or any other like it) makes it just a little less annoying and quicker to light up the dark. Thanks!

Ah my bad didn’t know it wouldn’t work with a shell on. I usually just let windows be windows (plus 6.5 is actually kinda pretty). Sorry haha. But on a side note, if you dont use any shells then its not needed

Yea SoupAssassin hence that exact point in the description. Surprising for you I guess but about 60-70% of Omnia users use Mobile Shell or Manila2D.
You also have to understand that the Windows Mobile 6.5 screen is not a stock Today theme for Omnia owners. Which means that I can guarantee anyone with an Omnia didn’t keep the 6.1 today screen since it’s HORRIBLE. So most people eventually after a few weeks get bored of those either use MS3 or M2D.
I use Manila2D and it’s possibly the most beautiful and best looking interface. I am running it on 6.5. I’m actually surprised that you like that Titanium screen because I found it to be way too boring and buggy. It’s just big lettered text in a list form with the magnetic selector thing…it looks way too plain. Plus you have to keep putting the selector BACK to the clock panel just to see the time rather then there just being a clock whenever your not using the phone. M2D is so much better and runs actually smoother then that by a long shot. I love sliding my finger across the bottom and everything is simple and organized in its own page.

Oh and also the regular omnia mapping key you can only do the Volume Down button. This lets you map to any key.
ON TOP OF THAT. Even with the “standard” volume down key mapping you have no control over the flash light. Just on and off. This program allows you different settings for it so even if you DO use the Today theme it has a purpose. So don’t tell people it’s pointless otherwise.
You can change the brightness and the MODE so it can either blink or have it so the flashlight only is on as long as you hold a button down.

Hi all.
My issue with this torch program is that when I click on any of the 5 modes it says “Error loading HTCCamera1.dll” Do I need to delete a certain file or rename something to point it to the omnia’s back light or camera or something?
Thanks for any assistance.

Hah, probably should have read the description, then I would have seen it mention that.
I will say that I like 6.5’s simple and boring titanium interface. It is effective and uncluttered, plus leaves the background picture nice and open for view. I tried both Manilla 2d and SPB Mobile Shell 3, but they both really bothered me. They seem a little to cluttered and they also slow the phone down, taking up precious RAM. At any rate its a matter of choice, but WM6.5 is so simple and sleek and I cant help but love it.
Oh and on a side note I agree, I would take ANYTHING over the stock 6.1 interface, which is totally ineffective and painful on the eyes.

I uploaded the one made for the Omnia to the administrator but he posted a different version for some reason it seems. TorchbuttonOmnia CAB is the one that works on the Omnia for me.
@SoupAssassin - I’m betting the reason you said M2D was slow was because you just downloaded the Theme addon for your phone instead of actually flashing to a M2D ROM. For me it’s anything but slow… it’s much much much faster than the 6.5 titanium screen and any other interface I’ve tried. It also doesnt take a lot of RAM like you said…it only takes 6MB. The scrolling icon on the bottom moves SO SMOOTH for me and looks amazing. The ROM I’m using is adrynalyne’s 6.5 M2D rom version 4.0.1. One reason its good is because his ROM frees up more RAM so I currently have 140MB RAM and im only using 30MB of the ROM. M2D is not even 4% of that cuz it only takes up 6MB like i said so i dunno what you mean.
I don’t see how you thought it was cluttered either…It’s a home screen with a panel for each catagory just like the titanium screen and you can add/remove panels that you dont use. The titanium screen was cluttered to me because each panel you have to swipe left and right on each one and half the panels are redundant and really serve no purpose. My M2D is as simple as pie…Home screen, Internet, Music & Video, Programs, Settings. I dont see getting more organized then that. The titanium screen was like 7 rows and each row swipes across like 10 times and two of the panels i remember had the same exact functions in it…it just seemed weird to me.
I do however like the 6.5 program screen better then the start menu. It seems a lot faster to choose stuff. But even so I use the program launcher on M2D which looks great. I dunno I just think M2D is the smoothest, fastest, and best looking interface. I originally used mobile shell but got bored after awhile and M2D has been awesome since day one for me. Like you said its all opinion based but i seriously recommend you try adrynalynes m2d ROM. It’s not slow one bit and definitely the fastest actually.

Can you please reupload
Because the rapidshare-link with the file says: “This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector’s Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times . . . “

Oh and guys…unfortunately the setting to change the brightness of the LED doesnt work with the Omnia. The guy netripper hasn’t figured out how to do it yet I guess.
I’ll explain what the download above are….
The one that says TorchButtonOmnia.CAB is the same exact program that is made for the HTC phones except it EMULATES the HTCCamera1 DLL file so it works on the Omnia.
The 1.5 version that the admin added is for HTC phones. The settings dont work with the omnia unfortunately. So you can only have the ON/OFF function as of now. Basically the only reason to download this is if you use Mobile Shell or M2D!!!
If you have the Omnia then download TorchButtonOmnia.CAB
This installs the program and when you run it or a shortcut it will alternate the flashlight on/off.
If you have a HTC phone or can find the HTCCamera1.dll somewhere then download the TB_15.zip
Hope that helps.

I uploaded a link to mediafire.com which supposedly has no stupid 60 second wait time and unlimited downloads of shared files without any premium account bullshit. WE SHOULD ALL USE THIS SITE INSTEAD OF RAPIDSHARE!

Both the rapidshare link i just posted and the mediafire link are to the TorchButtonOmnia.CAB!!!
Use the Mediafire one if the rapidshare one stops working guys. The Mediafire supposedly has no limits or waiting time….so you might even wanna use it to begin with.
ENJOY

And to scribble or whatever. No, WinMo 6.5 is a custom ROM built off a leaked update (Not official, they’ll look at you like you’re from mars).
Head over to modaco.com/forum.html and do some reading

It’s rumored that 6.5 will be released shortly after the Omnia II, Omnia Pro, and Omnia Lite are on the market. If you look up the reviews for those phones they advertise that it’s “Windows Mobile 6.5 Ready” or whatever. Basically saying that soon you will be able to upgrade to 6.5.
Others think that it won’t even be released because Windows Mobile 7 is already almost finished so they might just skip 6.5. Either way I’d be happy. I’d actually love to see how version 7 works and looks.

Many thanks, works like a dream now.
August 23rd, 2009 at 4:31 am
Certain programs / home screens means that the standard torch button stuff in the omnia doesn’t work…
This works well but you have to assign it to one of the hard keys like the menu button (i have it on the menu button as click & hold).

This works perfectly for what I needed it for. I’m using SPB mobile shell 3 and couldn’t map this to a button. This is just what I was looking for. Thanks for the UL!!!!!! And man, I can’t believe all the chatter above… LOL…
